The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has suspended all labor inspection activities for a month starting the first week of December.

The move is meant to lessen the opportunity for bribery, gift solicitation or other forms of corruption during the holiday season.

In Administrative Order No. 548, Acting Secretary Dominador Say directed all DOLE regional directors to suspend all labor inspection activities in their respective regions until January 7 next year. The AO was issued on Wednesday.

The period of suspension will be utilized for the disposition of all pending labor standards cases and preparation of the inspection program for 2018 for a more effective implementation of labor laws compliance monitoring.

Exempted from the suspension, however, are complaint inspections, occupational safety and health standards (OSHS) investigations, inspection of Philippine-registered domestic ships, technical safety inspections (e.g. inspection of boilers, pressure vessels, mechanical and electrical installation), and any establishment or industry for inspection as directed by the DOLE Secretary.

During the period of suspension, DOLE regional directors shall see to it that results of all inspection activities are synced in the Management Information System (MIS) before the end of December.

The Information Technology personnel in-charge of the information and communications technology materials and/or the MIS Regional Systems Administrators shall conduct an audit of all the mobile gadgets used by the Labor Laws Compliance Officers (LLCOs) for inspection activities for updating of all 2017 inspection reports.
