ALU, TUCP Party-List put up Workers’ Training Center
By Shirley Vicoy-Yorong
The Associated Labor Unions (ALU) and the Trade Union Congress Party (TUCP Party – List) have put up a workers training center that would help workers, especially job seekers, members and constituents (1) discover career opportunities; (2) gain or improve their skills; (3) enhance their employability; and (4) find decent work or start their own income-generating projects.
The ALU and the TUCP Party-List join hands to operate the ALU-TUCP Workers Training Foundation, Inc. (ATWTC), a non-stock and non-profit organization registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
Founded in August 2011, ATWTC offers technical-vocational courses, specially those offered under the government’s Training for Work Scholarship Program (TWSP) administered by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).
The ATWTC, located in Cebu City, initially offers two courses, namely: Finishing Course for Call Center Agents (FCCCA) and Pinoy Hilot Wellness Massage. The programs are FREE to (1) unemployed or underemployed, with or without experience; and (2) those who are employed but are contemplating career change and ready to undergo training. The duration of the training varies depending on the course, i.e., 104 hours for FCCCA and 120 hours for Wellness Massage.
The ATWTC started screening of would-be scholars in October 2011. Qualification requirements for the free training include:
Ability to communicate in oral and written English
Physically and mentally fit
Of good moral character
Must pass the trainability/aptitude entrance test given by the College
For Finishing Course for Call Center Agents, at least 2 years college education
Applicants who pass assessment have the following enrolment requirements:
- ID pictures - 5 pcs 1x1 and 3 pcs 2x2 on white background
- Barangay clearance (photocopy is acceptable)
- Certified true copy of Form 138 or Transcript of Records
“There has been a mismatch in the supply of and demand for skilled human resources in this country”, said TUCP Party - List Representative Raymond Democrito C. Mendoza. “While thousands of job vacancies exist, the skills of our millions of unemployed brothers and sisters generally fall short of the competency requirements of these vacancies. We will help bridge this gap through the ATWTC, by producing competent and competitive graduates, who will consequently gain economic freedom and contribute to social development.”
For FREE pre-training assessment, interested applicants can contact the ALU Central Visayas Regional Office at (+32) 253-2170, 256-1672 or 256-1669. Applicants can also visit the ALU Office located at 2nd Floor, JSU-PSU Mariners’ Court, ALU-VIMCONTU Welfare Center, Pier I, Cebu City, or send an email to email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org.
